Janie West
I am thrilled to return to my alma mater, where I am excited to work alongside an amazing staff and inspire our incredible high school students for their next step. With a passion for research, literature, and technology, call on me for all of your high school academic/leisure time needs. I am here to help, to teach, to model, and to make a difference. As a high school student, my dream was to return and contribute to the school community—whether as a teacher or, even better, running the library—and now that dream has become a reality.
I hold a BA in English and History from Stephen F. Austin State University, a M.Ed. in Library Science and Educational Supervision from University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a M.Ed. in Educational Technology Leadership from Lamar University. My career includes serving as a librarian at Lee, San Jacinto, and Baytown Junior, as well as teaching all levels at Goose Creek C. I. S. D. At Sterling, I co-sponsor National Honor Society, with Mrs. C. Butcher and coach UIL Lit Crit.
On a personal note, I married my Sterling High School sweetheart, and together we have two wonderful daughters—the oldest, a graduate of Sterling High School the youngest, a graduate of Barbers Hill; both earned MBA degrees in Finance/Accounting from Texas A & M University. Looking forward with anticipation to help in any/every way.
Mission
The mission of the library program at Ross S. Sterling High School is to collaborate with the faculty teaching information, evaluation, and retrieval skills while enhancing and supporting the curriculum through connectivity with technology. Students are provided with a current print and digital library collection that is relevant, diverse, academic, popular, and recreational, to encourage lifelong readers and success in the world after high school.
Vision
Ross S. Sterling library program envisions a welcoming, integral center, collaborating with the school community to enhance, inspire, and challenge students to inquire, research, create, be lifelong readers and learners, utilize technology, access materials, and develop their maximum potential both academically and with leisure time activities and hobbies.
